Living in the UAE where we use desalinated water on almost everything can sometimes cause havoc on our beauty routine. One of the most talked-about effects of this kind of water is hair breakage, which leads to thinning (not hair loss though, because we kind of know the culprits behind this). Moving on, there are ways you can “treat” the water coming from your shower to minimize the impact, like installing certain gadgets, and then there are other ways you can protect your hair from this impact. I had never tried either because I don’t wash my hair on a daily basis, 2 to 3 times a week at most. But when I got a chance to try out Vierro Water Protect haircare range made specifically to be used where desalinated water is a constant, I took it, just to see if does what it claims to do (I’m a curious cat).
Now, I’m a curly-haired girl, and most of our hair thrives on oil. That’s why we don’t wash it daily, so as not to strip it of its natural oils. I used the haircare range, which includes shampoo and conditioner for approximately 4 weeks so that I’d be sure of it.

Vierro Water Protect haircare range
Vierro’s Water Protect range, which is a local brand, is specially designed taking into consideration the climatic conditions of the Middle East. It is a careful mix of oils and proteins to protect the hair and help it retain the minerals and proteins that are usually lost when washing frequently with desalinated water.
The range is made for all hair types (meaning anybody and their mama can use it). Also, it’s best if you use both the shampoo and conditioner, instead of mixing it up with another brand; that’s if you want the best results (so they say). And a word of caution, check the ingredients first to make sure you’re not allergic, especially to the peppermint oil, which seems to be a dominant factor (the scent and all). Other proteins included in the ingredients include multi-protein complex, and Vitamins A, D, E, & F.
The Vierro Water Protect hair care range has this ‘Protein Protect Therapy’, which is a newly designed technology that strengthens and protects hair from the follicles to the tips. It nourishes the scalp with a coated layer of proteins which promote hair growth and leaves the hair strong, healthy, and shiny.

My Experience
After I got my Vierro Water Protect haircare range, it took me a minute before I started using it (maybe I was anxious it might tangle up my curls or something). But when I finally did, nothing of the sort happened. With the shampoo, a little goes a long way (maybe that’s why it comes in a smaller bottle). All you have to do is massage it onto wet hair, then rinse. Depending on how clean your hair is (we know how some of y’all hair can get sometimes) you can repeat. As for me, once made it squeaky clean.
Enter the conditioner, from which I deviated a little bit. Basically, you’re supposed to apply on wet clean hair, massage, then rinse. For my head of hair, I’m used to leaving the conditioner on for a couple of minutes before rinsing, and that’s what I did (don’t ask why, because it’s just a habit).
Results
After the first and second washes, there was not much of a difference except that nice and fresh feeling left behind by peppermint on the scalp. But to be honest I didn’t know what to expect or what I should be looking out for with the Vierro Water Protect haircare range. Moving on, after two weeks I noticed that the amount of hair that would usually break off while combing to distribute the conditioner all over was becoming less and less. And 4 weeks down the line, the breakage is almost zero (I know it can never be completely zero, but a girl can hope) and my hair feels quite strong, and a little denser (I don’t know about the shine though because I oil my hair frequently)!

My Takeaway
So, is Vierro Water Protect haircare range the answer to hair breakage caused by desalinated water? You bet it is. I’m only halfway through the bottles (remember a little goes a long way), and when I’m completely done, I might give you an update.
Before I sign off, yes, the Vierro Water Protect haircare range is unisex, and it can help in repairing damaged hair as well. Additionally, it will not create a dent in your wallet; the conditioner goes for AED 11.50, while the shampoo is AED 8.50, and you can find them at Carrefour.
