Every new summer begs for a closet swimsuit refresh unless you live in tropical areas or by the beach and I bet you are curious about which swimsuits are chopping the block this year. After plenty of research from social media and the runways, I found designers like Missoni and Bottega Veneta leaning towards minimalistic updates on textured ruffles, string sets, and tastefully constructed cut-outs.

I’ve had my eye recently on Iridescent by H&M and Refined by Zara who has redefined the Y2 K-inspired swimsuit by adding precise cuts and detailing to create the ultimate trikini 2.0. The trikini is perfect for indulging in summer activities without constricting your silhouette and movement.

Metallic swimwear
Swimsuits designed with glittery, shimmery, or metallic materials deserve priority in our summer swimsuit trends for this year. These attention-grabbing swimsuits have been spotted on Kylie Jenner, Kim Kardashian, Norman and more making it this season’s must-have.

Metallic swimsuits are all about the glitz and glam which makes them perfect for beach clubs and yacht days. Pair with chunky jewelry and chic sunnies and watch your Insta blow. Swimsuits with metallic or glittery finishes may however require special care as they can easily unravel or fall apart.

I am currently 15lbs over my summer body goal and to make matters worse I’m battling with an attention-seeking tummy pooch which seems to get bigger every time I catch a whiff of food. I honestly don’t enjoy sucking in my stomach when I get bloated from poolside cocktails, so seeing high-waist bikini bottoms become all the rage this summer made me smirk.
This forgiving fit nips and tucks in all the right places providing a sense of comfort and coverage, while accentuating an hourglass figure. Designers such as Jade Swim have added a twist on the basic high-waist bottoms by creating a higher-cut leg which creates an elongating effect. Initially, high-waist bikini bottoms featured waistbands that hit at the natural waistline, but the new summer swimsuit trends range from barely grazing your belly button to extreme high-rise.
When it comes to coordinating your swimwear, playing with various bikini top designs and patterns can be fun. You can switch up a basic black bottom a million times with triangle tops (a minimalist’s fave), bandeaus, printed tops, or sportier tops depending on your preference. Flaunt your figure with pride and show some skin without putting it all out there with this trend that’s perfect for me and my girlies with a pooch (I’ll do better next year).

Cutouts
Skin is in this summer and what better way to show off some skin than with the cutout trend? This revealing trend is not new to the scene with brands such as Christopher Esber and Cult Gaia known for their minimalist silhouettes, creating swimsuits with sultry cut-out details this season proving that the trend is here to stay.
It is very flattering to see what wonders a well-placed cut-out can do to a classic swimsuit or bikini. From a minimal slit along your waist or midriff to keyhole cut-outs on the center of your décolletage these peek-a-boo elements can help sculpt your body.
These intricately designed pieces are so versatile you could pair them with a wrap skirt or linen pants after drying off and continue with whatever fetes your day or night has in store. I know for some the cut-out swimsuit trend is a no-go zone because of the unflattering tan lines you are left with, but I’d urge you to give this trend a whirl just don’t forget your sunscreen. Remember, the more sophisticated the cut-outs, the better.
Swim skirts
It’s time to put the basic cover-ups to the side and make way for summer’s latest and hottest style, the swim skirt. The miniskirt has officially expanded beyond our day-to-day outfits and entered the water world. Swimsuit skirts trended after the Miu Miu micro swim skirt set went viral for giving a modern take on the sarong and classic cover-up.
Swim skirts are generally made of the same material as the bikini set which then creates a stunning three-piece set when put together. Having been created from the same material as the bikini means you can keep it on while you swim if you require a bit more coverage. I think swim skirts will make you stand out this summer as you are clearly bringing something different compared to the basic bikinis and one-pieces. It also shows how sexy modesty can be when incorporated into the swimwear world.
