Home Remedies for Stretch Marks and How You Can Reduce Them

Reduce Stretch Marks With These Simple Home Remedies

Stretch marks are some of those things we have a love-hate relationship with. Sometimes I’d find myself declaring ‘stretch marks don’t care’ while other times I’m inspecting my thighs wondering if all that Bio-oil has done anything to diminish them at least slightly. I and others I know have tried several simple home remedies for stretch marks, and for some reason, some of them work while others remain stubborn.

Also known as linear marks, stretch marks start appearing during puberty, and keep going during pregnancy in addition to those times you gain a few Kgs, and then lose. Your stretch marks can also be as a result of hormonal changes, genetics, and some corticosteroid creams and lotions. These tiger lines have a tendency to appear in some funny places including the inner and outer thighs, stomach, butt, back of the knees, breasts, and back. Oh, and before I forget, they appear in both males and females, big and small.

Effective Home Remedies for Stretch Marks

There are quite a lot of home remedies for stretch marks, and since I can’t list all of them, I had my go-to Skincare expert Amira Nassar, narrow them down to the ones that might be a bit effective. Of course, if you don’t have the patience for home remedies and prefer a quick fix, you can always opt for some laser skin treatments, which I’ve seen work wonders.

Olive oil

It acts as a moisturizer, which from the above point is one of the best home remedies for stretch marks. In addition, it contains a lot of antioxidants and nutrients which help in keeping your skin healthy and smooth.

Moisturizing the Skin

Keeping your skin moisturized helps in maintaining elasticity especially when the stretch marks are new. The moisturizer works wonders on the skin’s collagen-rebuilding properties hence allowing regeneration, healing, and as a result, reducing the appearance of the marks.

Lemon Juice

Since it’s already a natural bleaching agent, it can help fade the scarring, especially on pale skin. As for dark skin, the jury is still out.

Potatoes

Other than making your favorite snacks, potatoes also play nice with your skin when it comes to reducing linear marks. This is because potato juice contains a number of minerals, essential fatty acids, and vitamins. And if applied properly, and often, it is very capable of encouraging production of collagen and as a result restoring new skin cells which diminish stretch marks.

Aloe Vera

Home Remedies for Stretch Marks and How You Can Reduce ThemThis list would not be complete without super Aloe Vera, which seems to have a lot of benefits attached to it. As one of the home remedies for stretch marks, Aloe works by increasing the production of collagen on the skin hence repairing the skin and fading stretch marks.
