How to Hack Salon-worthy Toes at Home

How to Do an At-home PedicureWhen was the last time you had a pedicure? And I’m not talking about just polishing your toenails? I’ll go first; it was sometime between late February and early March (I can’t remember the dates clearly). This was right before the mandatory lockdown that seemed to last forever, and the salons were all closed. Even though they offered to come to do an at-home pedicure, I still couldn’t take the chance, you know, because Ms Rona seems merciless. Since then, I haven’t had any form of pedicure or manicure for that matter, and I’m still surviving. But that needs to change ASAP!

If you are like me, and even after the lockdown you are still stuck indoors most of the time, then you may agree with me that something has to change. If you are not comfortable going to the spa, then I’m sure it makes sense to pamper your feet with an at-home pedicure.

Now, I am no Pedi expert, but I’m lucky to have the expert folks over at Skin Republic HQ, who have put together a super simple guide on how to get a salon-worthy at-home pedicure with all the bells and whistles for a dreamy day/night in.

Steps to Follow for Your DIY Home Pedicure

Step 1: Light a candle and put on your favourite music – this is important!

Step 2: Skip the fast-paced song to get to the romantic one you really need to hear.

Step 3: Remove your old nail polish, then trim and shape your nails. Cut straight across your nails without cutting the corners too much, as this can lead to painful ingrown nails. Use a nail file to give them the desired shape.

Step 4: Bath your feet in warm water mixed with bubbles for extra pampering. Relax while you soak your feet and listen to those beats. Dry your feet with a towel when done.

Step 5: Exfoliate! Remove all dry and dead skin cells with a foot scrub or better yet use the Skin Republic foot peel which removes dead skin cells after 7 days. Gently push back cuticles with a cuticle stick.

Step 6: Here’s the fun part. How does shea butter, ginkgo Biloba, green tea, peppermint and seaweed sound? Good, right?! To soften your heels and moisturise at the same time, you’ll need to use the Skin Republic foot repair which helps soothe rough, dry feet and heels. You’ll have soft, pretty feet in no time!

Expert tip: Skip step 6 if you have used Foot Peel as your dry skin will naturally shed over the next 7 days. It is recommended to use Foot Repair two weeks post-Foot Peel treatment – or when your feet have stopped peeling – to maintain the silky soft toes.

Step 7: Now you can decorate your nails with a base coat, nail polish and a topcoat. This will make your nail polish last longer.

Step 8: Voila, you’re good to go.

Additional Tips for Your At-home Pedicure

Just in case you don’t have access to the foot repair, go for natural shea butter and I promise you won’t regret. I use it always and my feet have remained soft as a baby’s bum during the lockdown and beyond. Also, if I may add, when you’re doing your at-home pedicure, don’t include a glass or two of grape in the mix if you are hoping to have a seamless polish work.
