A couple of weeks ago, a close friend woke me up quite early on a Friday (which is the first day of the weekend here) to accompany her for some sort of shopping about 3 emirates away. On our drive back to Dubai after our ‘unusual’ shopping experience, I remembered that I had received a breakfast invite at Günaydin Dubai, a special Turkish steakhouse. So I directed my good friend to the place and after locating the eatery, we were fast seated and ready to be served.
Located in Downtown Dubai, Günaydin Dubai is one of those restaurants that if they say they are Turkish, they are truly Turkish; everything from the décor, cutlery and the wait staff. With that out of the way, my friend and I sat patiently waiting to see how ‘Turkish’ the food would be, since it was a new breakfast concept the folks there were introducing.

Ambiance
As we were waiting for our Turkish breakfast (which I expected it to be meaty since it’s a steakhouse), I took the opportunity to take in my surroundings. You see, Günaydin Dubai is not located just anywhere in Downtown Dubai, but in one of the most prime locales – the amazingly beautiful Souk Al Bahar waterfront promenade, with a spectacular view of the Dubai Fountain and Burj Khalifa. With such a view, what more could one ask for? And they have outdoors and indoor sitting for both small and big groups. While inside, depending on where you are sitting, you can have a view of the variety of meats on display, begging you to choose them.

Breakfast of Queens
After maybe 7 to 10 minutes, our meal arrived (or rather started arriving). I had a Turkish tea, which my good friend refused (because she drinks good old chai) and opted for fresh orange juice. After everything (I assumed) had been laid out in front of us, I looked at the nice waiter, and I was about to ask him if there were other (unknown) strangers that would be joining us. I mean the whole table was covered with an entire Turkish feast, which I casually nicknamed breakfast of Kings. I was already full just by looking at the variety of dishes waiting to be devoured by us.

Tastes of İstanbul’s Bostanci at Günaydin Dubai
In addition to the handcrafted selection of oven-fresh breads and the unlimited Turkish tea, there was a selection of Turkish cheese, home-made jams, Agean olives, honey, and Kaymak. We were also served their signature oven-baked Pastirma (a kind of Turkish cured beef), which they unwrapped right on our table while it was still sizzling. The other delights of the morning were Sucuk eggs ( a form of Turkish sausage baked in eggs), and then Menemen (Turkish scrambled eggs with tomatoes, chilies and lots of olive oil).

Fresh Flavors at their Finest
Digging in was not a problem because one bite from every selection was enough to fill my tummy. My friend, on the other hand, was staring at me as if there was a queen bee on my nose. When I asked her what the problem was, she simply asked me “where is the mixed grill?” Well, let’s just say our next conversation is not fit to be outlined here. But we slowly indulged our taste buds to a heavy, but healthy and flavorful breakfast, which I must say is better served on a weekend when you have nothing planned afterward other than lazing around and allowing the fresh flavors of Bostanci to digest.
The Günaydin Dubai special breakfast is served every Friday and Saturday from 8.30am to 12noon and costs AED 98 per head.
