In a previous post, Medical Aesthetician Lola Ali Muhammad spoke about PRP therapy and why it works wonders. In this post, just as promised, she will be explaining the mechanics of PRP therapy combined with Microneedling and Fractional Laser.
PRP Therapy with Microneedling
“Microneedling, as the name suggests, works by inflicting controlled micro-wounds on the skin by puncturing the surface. As a result, new collagen and elastin is produced as the body is activated to fill in these micro-wounds,” states Lola.
As the new collagen and elastin are generated, she continues, the skin becomes more firm, triggering more healing of other skin issues like stretch marks, acne scars, wrinkles, scars, pigmentation, and texture. “If used on its own, microneedling can have downtime which includes redness and a bit of swelling for a couple of days.”
By incorporating PRP therapy in this procedure, the results become more prominent with shorter downtime. “After the PRP is applied to the target area, the micro-needling device is passed on this area. This allows for the plasma to sip into the micro-injuries created by the microneedles,” she says.

The plasma, which is rich in growth factors, goes into the deeper layers of the dermis. This procedure rejuvenates the skin, shaving years off the skin’s appearance. This PRP and micro-needling therapy does not leave any scars and literally has no downtime.
PRP Therapy and Fractional Laser
Fractional laser is another skin rejuvenation treatment that is known to have a downtime of at least five to seven days. According to Henda Kahia – Cosmetologist and anti-ageing expert and a colleague of Lola – during the procedure, the laser creates thousands of microscopic wounds on the skin. “After they are inflicted, these micro-wounds stimulate collagen production which immediately tightens the skin.”
“Some of the effects of fractional laser, on its own, include a longer downtime, redness and swelling, and scaling of the skin which lasts for up to four days,” explains Henda. She notes that when PRP is introduced to a fractional laser procedure, everything changes.

“It is usually injected into the skin or applied after the fractional laser treatment. After the plasma gets into the deep of the dermis, it increases the production of the collagen and speeds up the recovery by significantly reducing the redness, and keeping down any inflammations as well as pigmentations on the treated area.”
The increased collagen stimulation augments the skin. This leaves it smoother with an improved texture and healthier and younger-looking skin.
Fractional laser and PRP therapy are also very efficient in treating active acne as well as wrinkles, acne scars, fine lines, and skin tightening. By incorporating PRP therapy with these two major skin treatments – Fractional Laser and Microneedling – the treatments become more effective, with minimal downtime, and little to no side effects.
