Some of us would go to any lengths to keep our nails in tip-top shape at all times. But you all know that’s better said than done. At some point, you throw up your hands and be at peace with keeping your nails as short as possible because you think then they’ll give you a break. But that’s where you are wrong. Whether your nails are long, short, medium, or somewhere in-between, nail care is necessary. And the more you take care of them, the more beautiful and strong they become. Nobody likes uneven, brittle, and chipped nails; not to mention annoying cuticles. So, to help you out in the nail department, we had Izanne Fagan, the training manager over at Tips & Toes, share her top nail care tips for stronger talons.

Moisturize More
If you thought your face is the only thing that needs moisturizing, think again. Dry hands are a major problem when it comes to maintaining nail strength and health – hydrated hands mean healthier nails, so treat your hands with the same love and attention that you reserve for your face. If you don’t like a greasy feeling throughout the day moisturize your hands at night so the moisture can soak in whilst you sleep!

Always Wear a Base Coat
Even if you don’t have time for a full manicure (what nightmares are made of!), applying a hydrating and strengthening base coat, such as TITO Ace of Base, can prevent the nails from breaking and becoming weak in-between salon visits.
Care for your Cuticles
Your cuticles are a great reminder of when you might have left it a little too long between mani appointments. The dreaded ‘grow-out gap’ isn’t just unsightly, but your cuticles are a massive part of maintaining strong nails – they act as both a seal and a barrier, keeping in hydration and keeping out possible infections. To avoid both, gently push them back instead of trimming too often and remember to keep them moisturized for some extra cuticle care.

Eat your Greens
Just as with your skin and hair, what you eat can also affect your nails. Maintaining a healthy diet will keep your nails growing long and strong so don’t skip your greens and make sure to get as many vitamins as possible.
Get Regular Manicures
As if you needed any further excuse! Manicures remove the rough edges, and dry cuticles, and keep your nails moisturized, which promotes healthy growth, plus with hundreds of nail polish colors to choose from, you can keep them looking perfectly pretty too!
