Hair Loss and Health: Losing More than Just Your Hair

Hair Loss and Health: Losing More than Your Hair

hair loss causesSometimes hair loss is just hair loss without any deeper meaning. At other times, losing your hair doesn’t matter if you are male or female, it can still scatter your brains with worry. This is because some cases of hair thinning can be triggered by some deep health issues within your body.

As much as I like talking about hair transplant and hair restoration, not all types of hair loss can be fixed with a hair restoration procedure at some hair transplant center. Sometimes you need to get to the root of your hair loss problems. This is not meant to worry you since sometimes your thinning mane can just be as simple as genetics. But hey, better safe than sorry!

If you are losing your hair, and you are worried about what might be causing it; then it is time to look deeper into your health. Just like nails, hair is an extension of your body, and by looking at your hair’s behavioral patterns, you can get some insider information on how your overall health is fairing on.

Hair loss and health 1Hair Loss due to depression

Depression can sometimes lead to hair loss, but on the other hand, the depression meds you are taking can also be the culprits. Whichever is the cause, I would suggest you first focus on treating the disease, before embarking on how you can get your hair back. Afterward, everything will just fall into place without much effort.

 Stress

Who loves stress? Nobody, I included. If there’s a chance we could exist without stress, that would be great, but yet here we are. Several studies have shown that too much stress can lead to hair loss. So if you happen to be losing more hair than usual, and at the same time you are stressed, then there is your cause. It’s not easy to relax when you are stressed, but you can manage it. Try exercise, yoga or meditation.

Hypothyroidism

If you are female and you are losing a big chunk of your hair, then chances are you might be suffering from hypothyroidism. Some of this disease’s symptoms include increased shedding of the hair as well as a change in the appearance of your mane. See your doctor for a diagnosis and treatment as well.

hair loss and health 2Protein Deficiency

Protein is key for healthy hair growth. So when you start losing hair, try to see if you are incorporating enough protein in your diet. If you are not having enough, then you need to get back on your protein bandwagon. And if you are already having enough protein and you are still losing your hair, then it’s time to pay your doctor a visit.

Prostate cancer

A number of studies indicate that there is a link between hair loss and prostate cancer. According to one study, males who suffered hair loss by the age of 30 years were more likely to have prostate cancer by the age of 60. So, if you want to fight this cancer, the answer lies with early detection. If you are having hair loss, consider this as a message from your prostate telling you to head to the doctor’s office.

Hair loss and health 3Anemia

A deficiency in iron can most certainly lead to hair thinning and hair loss. To know for sure, get a test to determine if you are having enough iron-rich foods and if it is the root cause of your hair loss. If it is the cause, get some supplements as well as foods rich in iron.

On the same note, losing hair might sometimes not be a result of a health threat. Other factors that can lead to hair loss include taking birth control, menopause, pregnancy, and the famous genetics among others. If you are facing any hair loss, please consult your doctor and don’t self-diagnose.
