Restaurant Review: Eggspectation City Walk - The Beautiful Lifestyle Online

Be Ready to Have Your EggSpectations Surpassed at This Eatery

Restaurant Review: Eggspectation City WalkIt was one of those beautiful afternoons we sporadically get here in Dubai. The weather was not hot, and neither was it cool; it was just brilliantly swinging somewhere in between; probably teasing us before the heat sets in. We decided to move away from our usual comfort zones and venture out into somewhat new territory. Within no time we found ourselves at Dubai’s City Walk neighborhood, at Eggspectation restaurant – a Canadian casual dining cafe best known for its eggy dishes.

If you’ve never been to Eggspectation before, you might think they only serve breakfast; but they have lunch, dinner, and everything in-between served all day every day. The only similarity is that they have more egg-based dishes than any other Dubai eatery I know. And who said eggs are only for breakfast? I mean, I just had … never mind, keep reading.

The ambiance at Eggspectation City Walk

Restaurant Review: Eggspectation City WalkEggspectation restaurant, which is quite spacious and airy, has an outdoor dining area that’s quite welcome in this beautiful weather, as well as a modern rustic-decorated interior. Since us Dubai people like to maximize the amount of time we spend outdoors during the “cool” weather, we thought it best to sit outside and visually explore our surroundings. Depending on which side of the outdoors you sit, you can either have a view of the Burj Khalifa, or the neighboring shops and apartment buildings.

The staff here are quite friendly and attentive, with Mr. Manoj the manager being an absolute sweetheart with his caring nature. They showed us to our table and immediately gave us the menu so that we could get started on what we were egg-xpecting to eat and drink.

The Menu

The Eggspectation menu is quite expansive, as mentioned earlier. And even though there’s quite a number of dishes that have an egg or two, there are more without that particular ingredient. From chicken wings, shrimp tacos, and bruschetta, to Montreal Poutine and crab cake, there we more starters to choose from than we anticipated. Being minimalists, we went with the shrimp tacos and crab cakes, which didn’t disappoint our hunger. The servings are quite generous, so we didn’t finish the starters because we needed to experience the rest of the course. For drinks, we went with freshly squeezed grapefruit juice and a tropical teaser cocktail packed with vitamin C.

For the mains, we chose grilled salmon served with mango salsa and pearl barley, and one of the spring specials – sausage frittata (yeah, I had to have something eggy at Eggspectations).

That out of the way (well, we had to get a doggy bag since we couldn’t finish), we decided to share some dessert.

The popular chef’s choice was the S’mores French toast, which comprised of brioche stuffed with melted Nutella and marshmallows (who doesn’t love Nutella anyway?). In addition to the Nutella goodness, the toast was topped off with a drizzle of pure Canadian maple syrup and chocolate sauce. Well, this one we had to finish, of course with my double shot of espresso and a café latte for my partner in crime.

A Delicious Hideaway at City Walk

Restaurant Review: Eggspectation City WalkMost folks are familiar with the Eggspectation restaurant branch at the Beach in JBR, little do they know there’s a similar hideaway at Dubai’s City Walk area. It might not be next to the beach, but it’s still egg-cellent either way. The food ranges from all-day breakfast, brunch for dinner, a variety of salads, eggstraordinary pastas, grills, eggy burgers, hard-hitting sandwiches, flatbreads and a variety of desserts. And the best part is that the prices are not over the top; they’re what I would describe as ‘having a taste for your money’.
