I remember the first time I tasted Aloe Vera juice, I had an immediate regret and swore never to have it close to my taste buds again. But later I learned that it’s an acquired taste; and the moment you acquire that taste, you will reap quite a few benefits by drinking Aloe Vera juice. Well, I have not reached that stage where I can drink it without gagging from the bitterness, but I’m getting there (fingers crossed).
Aloe Vera is a very bitter medicinal plant that has been used all over for centuries. Although it is mainly found in tropical and subtropical parts of the world, it is used worldwide. The Indian, Chinese and Middle Eastern folks have used it as a herbal medicine since forever and millions more people have jumped on board.

Aloe Vera juice can either be drunk or applied topically for different purposes. For myself, it’s all about detoxing and using it as a face scrub for skin exfoliation. But in general, it is used occasionally as a safe herbal remedy for specific problems or regularly as a general health enhancer (like I do).

Aloe Vera juice contains plant steroids like campesterol which inhibit the inflammatory process started by damaged tissues. Drinking Aloe Vera juice also blocks the production of histamines hence fighting inflammation.
Digestion Aid
Aloe Vera juice contains enzymes that break down fats and sugars which allows the digestion of food to run smoothly. In addition, it helps to decrease irritation in the intestines and stomach. It also relieves stomach upsets and restores normal digestion.

Aids in Weight Loss
Although the Aloe juice does not have a direct weight loss effect, it aids weight loss in many ways like detoxifying your system. Since many weight loss diets require an initial detox phase, this is where the juice comes in. It also contains soluble fiber which prevents the absorption of too much dietary fat into the body.

Aloe Vera juice is packed with nutrients such as vitamins, folic acid as well as small amounts of sodium, copper, calcium, chromium, magnesium, selenium, zinc, potassium, manganese and vitamin B-12.
