A nice and quiet dinner is always my kind of thing, but sometimes I like to shake things up a bit for something a little extra. This time the shaking up happened a couple of days ago when we decided on having not just any dinner, but a dinner with a show at Maison Rouge restaurant, located inside the Conrad Dubai.
First Impression/Decor
Once at Maison, a modest entrance with a red carpet leads you to the interiors, where true to its name, are very sleek and ‘rouge’ from top to bottom, with a quietly rustic and contemporary chic décor. The space is quite open and airy with dim lighting, making it the perfect setting for a perfect show. To put it simply, the ambiance is upscale but relaxed.
Depending on where you choose to be sat, you’ll definitely have a view of the stage or stages where the performances happen (the performers tend to move around from one stage to another or to the bar), which keeps your neck occupied.

The Menu and Food at Maison Rouge
I would describe the cuisine served at Maison Rouge to be quite international. The menu items range from Kerala curry shrimps, and Greek Moussaka, to Mexican Quesadillas and Arabic Shawarma among others (now, if that isn’t international, I don’t know what is). Nevertheless, it was still spectacular.
To start off our palates we decided on sharing Buratta with some freshly baked bread, and grilled skewered prawns with tartar sauce. On the drinks side, as usual, a bottle of still water and a nice bottle of white, since we had a vague idea of what we wanted to eat – seafood. The wine list is not too long, but I’m sure it can accommodate most knowledgeable palates. Their house cocktail list, in addition to the usual classics, seemed punchy enough to keep you there for a minute or two.
It took about 10-15 minutes to get the starters, and as soon as we were done, the mains came. I had a grilled salmon with veggies, and my partner had tuna. The dishes came well-presented, refined and were easy on the palate.

As soon as we started eating, the show began. I will not bore you trying to describe how they gyrated their hips and how the trumpet player never seemed to go out of breath and was always smiling or what not. Instead, I’ll let you see for yourself (hence the many videos I’ve linked here).

The staff, dressed in their neat red suspenders and bowties, are quite efficient and friendly (especially Mark who waited on us) and did not carry that air of pretentiousness that you feel in some places. To top off our evening, after skipping dessert, we were served a pretty-looking vodka shot set in a red rose, and topped off with candy (I might assume). Mark told us that it was the Maison Rouge signature shot. And it didn’t disappoint!

Just in case you plan on heading over to the Maison Rouge, I would advise booking ahead, and that it’s going to be worth it. And before I forget, the shows start at 9.30pm; so if you don’t want to miss out on the action, don’t go before 9.30pm.
