Best Teas for Amazing Skin
1. Spearmint Tea
I am a bit of an acne treatment junkie. Since high school and college, I struggled with hormonal acne. I tried everything, from acne creams, cleansers to prescription pills. They all seemed to work but never gave me the porcelain skin that I wanted and I would still occasionally get small bumps on my forehead. All this changed the day I discovered spearmint tea. Studies show that taking two cups of spearmint tea on the daily proved to be more beneficial at clearing acne than prescription remedies. I didn’t hesitate and grabbed the biggest mug I could find in the house. To test this tea out I stopped using my acne cleanser and my acne cream but still maintained my regular diet. The end result was my acne cleared and my skin improved with noticeable changes after about a month. How does it work? Spearmint is the most potent of the different mints in killing skin disease-causing bacteria and yeast. It also has anti-inflammatory properties. You should definitely give this tea a try.
2. Hibiscus Tea
This beautiful ornamental plant does more than just look stunning in our homes, in addition to being one the best teas for amazing skin. The flowers are used in making a yummy Egyptian drink called ‘karkade’. Dried hibiscus is also edible and may be used as a vegetable flavouring, salad or as a delicacy. Hibiscus has a magical reputation when it comes to skincare. It is a natural source of alpha-hydroxy acids which are known to help exfoliate, control clogged pores and oily skin. This encourages a fresher, younger and smoother looking skin. On top of the alpha-hydroxy acids, this gorgeous plant has a high mucilage content that acts as a great skin moisturizer. Add all these factors up and you have yourself an all-natural anti-ageing tea that will help your skin appear more flawless and supple.

3. Chamomile Tea
There is something about sipping on floral teas that are really soothing. I found so much treasure in chamomile tea when it comes to its skin benefits. Beauty sleep is important for healthy skin because that is when our skin repairs itself. Chamomile tea is the best to sip on before hitting the sheets as it is caffeine-free, soothes our nerves, and helps us sleep better. This magical tea has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, which are great for treating acne. You can also apply it directly on active acne scars or blemishes. It also reduces the appearance of dark circles and puffiness around the eyes. What I like to do is chill some chamomile tea bags and place them under my eyes for about 15 minutes. Try it for those not-so-friendly mornings, you’ll see the difference in minutes and say goodbye to dark eye circles.
4. Peppermint Tea
Two words, plain delicious! Not only does it freshen our breath leaving us with a cool sensation in our tummies and mouth, but the amazing skin benefits we get from this tea are also remarkable. It may take a while for you to see the benefits from this tea, which is another one of the best teas for amazing skin, compared to commercial products, but the major pro is that they are long-lasting. Regular cups of this tea has proven to get rid of those nasty zits we get just before going on a date. The cooling effect of menthol is beneficial when it comes to oily, pimple-prone skin. If you have sensitive skin like me, most of the time you’ll be more conscious about facing the sun or different climates. Peppermint tea has antioxidants that help with skin ailments such as sunburns, premature ageing, wrinkles and skin infections. All you need now is patience and a daily warm cup of this tea. Alternatively, you can steep a bag of peppermint tea in a cup of water for about 10 minutes. Remove the bag and pour the tea into a dark glass spray bottle. Spritz your face with this when you need to cool down.

5. Green Tea
Saved the best for last. Green tea is the most popular healthy beverage out here because of its many health benefits backed up by science. It originated from China and has spread to various parts of the world. The greatest benefit I have received from it is the role it played in maintaining my skin quality and health. It is great at reducing acne, preventing melanoma and controlling oily skin. It may also slow down ageing as it improves the skin’s elasticity leaving you with a youthful appearance. If you are considering ditching coffee, well, green tea may just be your new go-to because it has fewer amounts of caffeine compared to coffee.
