5 Reasons You Should Be Using Lavender Oil on Your Skin

Benefits of Lavender Oil: 5 Reasons You Should Be Using it on Your SkinThe benefits of lavender oil are a lot and range from skincare to healthcare. And most of us are quite familiar with its pleasant scent because it’s used on the usual stuff like soap, air fresheners, lotions etc. I, on the other hand, use it for the skin, to get rid of acne in particular.

I have the kind of skin that I like to say ‘behaves’ most of the time, but there are those few times when it decides to go crazy. And when this happens it goes all out like a bat out of hell with zero warning. That was the case a couple of months ago when I did the Hollywood Peel, and I ended up with a slight acne outbreak two days later. What I did not mention was that the slight acne made an all-out break afterward, and I’ve been struggling with it since then.

Sometimes it would seem like the acne is clearing up only to wake up and find three zits in place of one that has already healed. I mean, the little bastards grow like weeds! Anyway, to cut the horror short, a friend suggested I give the lavender essential oil a try.

First Things First – Hydrafacial

As a rule of thumb, before I try any new face ‘treatment’, I have to do a Hydrafacial to get rid of all the dead skin and clean up clogged pores. So, after the Hydrafacial, I embarked on my lavender oil journey, and truth be told, I’m amazed. Right now I’m remaining with only one pimple, and I have my fingers crossed others don’t pop up.

My routine involves cleansing in the AM and PM with Dermaceutic Foamer 5 Gentle Exfoliating Cleansing Foam. In the morning I add 3 drops of lavender oil to my oil control sunscreen gel, and in the evening I add the same drops to my skin toning night cream. So far, the results are amazing. That’s why I’ve decided to share with you just some of the benefits of lavender oil, other than the annihilation of acne (fingers crossed still).

Benefits of Lavender Oil You Need to Know About

Gets Rid of Acne Troubles

As I mentioned above, I’m the walking and talking poster child of this lavender oil benefit. But how does this work? Lavender oil, according to some experts, has antiseptic properties that give it the capability to fight acne-causing bacteria and the inflammation that comes with it.

Treats Hair Loss

According to one Scottish study, some of the benefits of lavender oil include fighting hair loss among patients suffering from alopecia areata. This study reported that 40 percent of the participants reported an increase in hair density after regularly applying lavender oil on the scalp.

Skin Detoxification

The same antioxidants that fight acne also keep environmental pollutants and other toxins from harming your skin. In another study by Howard University College of Medicine, it was discovered that lavender oil was potent enough to fight the growth of bacteria on the skin.

Skin Toning and Firming

Not that I’ve noticed any skin firming on my part, but the oil can tone and easily firm your skin with continuous use. This is because when applied, it boosts blood circulation, which means an increase in oxygen supply hence adequate nutrition for cell renewal.

Eczema Treatment

In addition to treating acne, the oil can also treat other inflammatory conditions like eczema and psoriasis, due to its antiseptic properties.

Finally, if you decide to give these (and many other) benefits of lavender oil a try, then you have to be a little cautious. Before anything, do a patch test to make sure you are not allergic, and then never apply undiluted lavender oil close to the eyes.
