Global Village Dubai is the one place that brings a multitude of cultures under one roof. Out of the 30 pavilions representing 75+ countries, the beautiful and exotic colors of African fashion stand out. This is not new to some us. For a while now, fashion trends emerging from Africa have been rapidly becoming a global phenomenon. And if you’re a lover of fashion and exotic themes, there is no better for you to experience all these vibrant blends of traditional and contemporary creations than at Global Village Dubai.
This season of the Global Village Dubai, which is its 21st, countries from East, North and West Africa are showcasing their unique and vibrant styles. It basically gives you a first-hand experience of how centuries of traditional craftsmanship are today being fused with the most contemporary designs. In addition, you will get a chance to discover the exotic and exuberant flair from countries like Kenya, Morocco and Senegal. I know a few folks who’ve never set foot in Africa, and I am sure this is a way of ‘Africa coming to them’. Still, if you are one of them, you have to visit that beautiful continent at least once; it’s worth it!

All of which have captured the fusion between old and new, allowing you to savor the different colors, cultures and influences that the cradle of civilization has to offer. Every piece on the Africa Pavilion has distinct patterns that range from exotic crocodile skin to snakeskin and in between.
Bead Jewellery from Kenya
Global Village Dubai is also home to Kenya’s traditions, color, and culture woven into its unique handcrafted bead jewelry. Once used as currency centuries ago, these beads have today taken different forms as they embody the beliefs of various tribes in Africa through marvelous designs.
The hand-beaded jewelry of the Maasai tribe traditionally known for their vibrant dress and colorful artwork is the perfect choice for anyone on the look-out for some eye-catching, ethnic designs available as bracelets, earrings, and necklaces.

Moroccan Kaftans
Just a short walk from the Kenyan beads is the decorous Moroccan Pavilion which hosts many designers promoting their very popular traditional and brightly colored ‘Kaftans’. The Kaftans are made out of wool, cashmere, silk or cotton with a mixture of gold embroidery, which adds unique styling to each garment.
According to one specialized kaftan designer at the Moroccan Pavilion – Tarek Malhas – Moroccan women often choose Kaftans of bright colors with detailed embroidery to add a modern touch. And if you don’t know how or when to wear a Kaftan, Tarek says they are ideal for different special occasions and can be worn on both casual and formal occasions, depending on the materials used.
