The cold season is finally here; but with it comes dry air which leaves us scampering for ways to fight dry skin during winter time. The low humidity levels (in summer we are always complaining about the high humidity in Dubai) results in dry air which in turn robs our skin the moisture it needs to keep it looking and feeling healthy.
If you are living in an area where the winters come with harsh winds, then watch out because this can easily make your skin crack and bleed due to the dryness left behind. And if you are heating up your humble abode to cling on to some warmth, then you are also stripping your skin of moisture.
But all hope is not lost yet because there are certain tips you can follow to fight dry skin during winter. These easy tips will not only seal in the moisture within your skin, but will also reduce the cracking and redness that comes with the season.
Ways to Fight Dry Skin During Winter
Hydrate
During winter most of us have a tendency to consume less water than recommended. We focus more on drinks which warm up our bodies like hot chocolate mixed with something stiff. Since healthy skin is mostly made from the inside out, try to drink up as much as possible (I mean water). If you cannot handle plain water, try mixing lemon with warm water them bottoms up. This will go a long way towards hydrating your skin and in return helping you fight dry skin during winter.

Exfoliate
When we don’t exfoliate our skin on a regular basis dead cells build up. And this tends to block moisture from getting into the skin. Exfoliating the lips, face and hands can make a world of a difference and leave behind smooth skin. Make sure you use a moisturizer after exfoliating your skin. Also helpful in the cold months is using exfoliating body washes.

Cut Down on Shower Time
Even though it’s tempting to have long ‘hot’ showers during winter, please don’t give in to that temptation. This is because standing under the shower for too long or taking a long bath strips your skin of its natural oils and moisture. Cut down on the shower time then leave a little moisture on your skin while patting yourself dry. Moisturize immediately so as to seal in the moisture. And if you are used to having a hotter than normal shower, tone it down a little and use lukewarm water. This is if you are serious about trying to fight dry skin during winter.
Avoid Allergens and Irritants
During winter the skin gets more fragile. If you have dermatitis, eczema or psoriasis, avoid allergens and irritants that may cause flare ups. Also, use moisturizers that are designed for sensitive skin.
These are just a few of the ways you can fight dry skin during winter. But if you feel that there’s more to your dry skin other than the harsh cold, get your derma on the phone ASAP.
